International financial institutions: Regional development banks and Multilateral Financial Institutions

The RDBs arose to attend directly the development needs in certain geographical areas, in some of them (Africa and Asia) the end of the colonial era opened the way to the emerging of new States and new international relations. In this Way arose the BID, the BAfD and the BAsD. The collapse of the centrally planned economies is the origin of the BERD to support the East countries in its development towards the market economy. Between the existing development institutions, the BEI is analysed as a representative institution of the Multilateral Financial Institutions and different from the RDBs because of its smaller size and specific areas of activity.
