First observation of Z → τ+τ- production in pp collisions with CMS at √s=7 TeV

Studies of Z bosons decaying to tau leptons constitute a test of the Standard Model (SM) in the new LHC energy regime as well as a benchmark process for H -> tau(+)tau(-) searches. This paper describes the first results of Z -> tau(+)tau(-) studies performed with 1.7 pb(-1) of integrated luminosity collected with CMS detector up to end of Summer 2010.
