Alexander Dobrolyubov's unknown letter (1895) to the artist Pavel Chistyakov, currently stored at the Manuscript Department of the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg, is published in the article. This letter is analyzed in the context of Dobrolyubov's attempts to find a publisher for the magazine he planned to launch in 1895. Besides, Dobrolyubov's allusions to Kramskoi's letters and to Chistyakov's and Vasnetsov's paintings are analyzed.
