Service architecture learning's from early cable modem deployments

The view of a cable modem service architecture has changed as we have learned more about the paradigm of providing Internet access over a Cable Television network. The first commercially deployed systems were designed to allow for basic Internet services over a secure and reliable network. However, the Internet continues to grow and change at a rapid rate. New protocols and services have become available and the original service models must be evolved to take these new technologies into account. The intent of this paper is to describe the learning's from these early commercial system deployments and, as a result, how service models are changing.
