摘要
A question of causes and a nature of persistent Gender Pay Gap (GPG) is a major one having long-term consequences for individuals and for the society as a whole. In the Czech Republic there is no legal basis for any kind of discrimination, however, empirical data show substantial differences in average income between men and women. The gap persistently amounts to more than 20 % with women as a disadvantageous group. Wage gap differs according to a particular part of a labor market. Basic categories that can be traced when analyzing GPG are: education, type of employment, age and number of children. GPG is driven by many factor of which a dominant ones are the interruption of employment due to maternal leave or due to care for elder family members, self-selection of women to low income professions dominated by them, a higher risk aversion of women and preference for certainty at lower level of hierarchy.
