Vattenfall Europe appointed an independent Committee of Experts to investigate the events of June 28, 2007 at the Krummel (KKK) and Brunsbuttel (KKB) nuclear power stations. One the basis of the events associated with the reactor scrams in the two nuclear power plants, the Committee was to evaluate events and elaborate proposals for improvement. On the basis of the findings made, the Committee also developed proposals for measures to be taken in the plants, which were integrated into the set of measures for the Krummel and Brunsbuttel nuclear power plants as established by Vattenfall Europe Nuclear Energy GmbH (VENE) on September 5, 2007, and transmitted to the nuclear regulatory agency and published in the Internet. The complete analysis by the Committee of Experts presented in early November 2007 arrives at the conclusion that the administrative and technical preconditions for safe continued operation of the Brunsbuttel and Krummel nuclear power plants are in place. The Committee of Experts has no technical safety-related doubts in the area investigated, nor does it have any indications of deficits in reliability or technical expertise. The Committee of Experts recommend speedy implementation of the short-term measures identified. The Committee feels that, following implementation of these short-term measures, the preconditions have been established for speedy recommissioning of the Brunsbuttel and Krummel nuclear power plants.
