Shock-induced polarization in normal-hexane

The shock-induced electromotive force has been observed in normal-hexane as dielectric in a short circuited capacitor in the pressure range between 2.47 and 6.22 GPa. The induced current is inversely proportional to the initial thickness of the dielectric and is in accordance with Allison's theory to some extent. The magnitude of polarization is of the order of 10(-6)-10(-5) C/m(2) and proportional to particle velocity in the pressure range studied. (C) 1996 American Institute of Physics.
