The ground state of the xy model in a transverse magnetic field

摘要：
We show that the ground state of the xp model (ferromagnetic or antiferromagnetic) in a transverse magnetic field h - for any spin value, in any dimension - is the state with all spins aligned antiparallel to the field when h is greater than some critical value h(c). In particular, for the spin-1/2 linear chain, we study the behavior of correlations as functions of the magnetic field.
