Spectral properties of scattered light fluctuations

A part of light which propagates in a flow of particles is scattered in any direction. The study of scattered intensity is used to determine mass concentration notably in soot emission but also in other domains like rain-parameter determination or wind velocity measurement. This paper gives a stochastic model using Poisson processes and M/G/infinity queueing processes. The model allows to compute the power spectral properties as function of physical properties of particules and geometric shapes of lightened medium. Conversely, power spectral determination may achieve estimation of medium and/or particles parameters. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
