An architecture for knowledge-based spatial decision support systems

This paper presents an architecture for knowledge-based spatial decision support systems. This architecture applies knowledge-based techniques and mechanisms based on a graphical knowledge representation scheme called spatial influence diagrams to provide assistance for the formulation of a spatial problem, and the design and execution of a solution process, by automatically integrating models and data existing within the system. Spatial influence diagrams provide a means for the representation and formulation of spatial problems, together with automation of the solution process. From the system design perspective, this architecture is an integration and use of GIS and knowledge-based techniques for spatial modelling and knowledge processing.
