World soil science and soil conservation policy

Modern tendencies and priorities in the development of world soil science are characterized. The status of soil science in the world is evaluated; the most important achievements in the fields of the genesis, geography, chemistry, physics, and mineralogy of soils, as well as in the fields of soil conservation and assessment of land resources, are examined. The need for more active participation of Russian soil scientists in the national nature conservation policy is stressed.
