Language and globalization: global English and pluricentric Spanish

Globalization includes language, both English as the global language and local languages and varieties, as well as new language-contact situations. Globalization for the relatively large Spanish-speaking community crucially involves linguistic policy issues, including the acceptance of different varieties in a pluricentric language, and language contact both in Spain and the Americas. A realistic evaluation of Spanish or "habla hispana" is needed, both in the U. S. as a result of immigration and history, and in the wider Spanish speech community, especially in science and the internet.
