Generation of narrow-band two-photon state with doubly resonant cavity in parametric down-conversion

Spontaneous parametric down-conversion normally produces two-photon state with a wide bandwidth of Tera Hz, which is too large for optical detector to resolve and will limit its application in quantum information processing. Passive filtering may be used to narrow the bandwidth at the expense of signal rate. Here we report an experiment using active filtering to narrow the bandwidth to sub Giga Hz range and in the meantime greatly enhance the signal level. The observed enhancement factor is 5.6 x 10(4) per mode.
