Little Book of the The Lord's Supper The Latin Version of Johannes Calvin's Petit traicte de la saincte cene

The author presents the text of the Latin translation of John Calvin's Petit traicte de la saincte cene by Nicolas Gallasius, printed in Januar 1545 in Geneva, a text not included into the modern scholarly edition of Calvin's works due to its character as a translation. As command of the French tongue was a rare virtue amongst German theologians of the 16th century, existing evidence for a reception of Calvin's early theology of the Lord's Supper within such circles can reasonably be attributed to its Latin version. The author therefore suggests that any inquiry into the image theologians within the Holy Roman Empire had of Calvin before the publication of the Consensus Tigurinus in 1551 best took account of the Latin translation of his short treatise.
