The role of phosphofructokinase in the regulation of citric acid biosynthesis by the yeast Yarrowia lipolytica

摘要
The regulatory properties of phosphofructokinases from yeasts Yarrowia lipolytica, a producer of citric acid, and Candida maltosa were studied, Citric acid produced a weaker inhibitory effect on phosphofructokinase from Y. lipolytica than on phosphofructokinase from C. maltosa. The difference in the sensitivity of the enzymes to citrate appeared-to be caused by differences in their capacity for the overproduction of citric acid. AMP produced no effect on phosphofructokinase from Y. lipolytica and suppressed the inhibitory effect of citrate on the enzyme from C. maltosa. Ammonium suppressed the inhibitory effect of citrate and activated the enzymes from both yeast strains. The role of phosphofructokinase in the citric acid biosynthesis was discussed.
