Higher Education in the Integration of Latin America and the Caribbean. A Look from Cuba

International integration, in any sphere, is a key factor for development. Latin America and the Caribbean, with favorable conditions for uniting processes and forces from various fields, has been characterized by very low real levels of integration. This paper highlights the role that higher education must play as an ecumenical and dynamic factor in the integration process in the Latin American and Caribbean region. To support it, the factors that tend to favor integration are evaluated, as well as those that foster divisive positions. The work is crowned by the example of Cuba and what has been achieved in higher education, always aligned with the integrating trend, facing and defeating, also in this sphere, the measures against the largest of the Antilles, illegally applied by the United States government. The objective of the work is to emphasize the strength of higher education to promote integration, opportunities and modest but encouraging results that have been achieved.
