摘要
This paper reports on the experiments and the results obtained with distributed restoration on an ATM laboratory testbed. These experiments were performed within the framework of the RACE project IMMUNE, the objective of which was the development of a common strategic view on end-to-end network survivability. Next to two testbed implementations and a comparison of survivability techniques this project encompassed the assessment of issues and requirements and the definition of user and service classes, the development of evaluation methods, and a study of network management issues and escalation between network layers. The focus of this paper is on the ATM testbed that was set up for experimenting and demonstration of distributed restoration based on a message flooding algorithm. After the generation of a physical failure, the restoration mechanism is able to restore the traffic obtained from a video source within three to five seconds.
