Forbidden Raman scattering in pure and doped lithium niobate

摘要
We studied the possible effects of photorefractive activity on Raman scattering in pure, Mg-doped and Fe-doped single crystals of lithium niobate. We found no evidence of such effects in pure and Mg-doped materials. We show that in Fe-doped lithium niobate the build-up of light-induced anisotropic scattering strongly affects the relative intensities of Raman lines in specific experimental geometries. These effects could be used to characterize lithium-niobate-based materials with strong photovoltaic and photorefractive activity.
