Slowing and stopping photons using backward frequency conversion in quasi-phase-matched waveguides

摘要
A tunable scheme for slowing down and stopping light using the backward frequency conversion in the quasi-phase-matched waveguides is proposed. It is shown that delay time ranging from a nanosecond to hundreds of microseconds can be obtained in few-centimeter-long GaAs-based structures with up to ten GHz bandwidths at moderate (few W) peak powers of coupling light. The proposed scheme also allows one to continuously change the frequency of the signal.
