摘要
Aims: To compare the results of shoulder-arm morbidity in patients affected by head and neck cancer treated with different selective neck dissections (SND). Methods: Retrospective study with 44 SND. Patients were evaluated for their range of motion (ROM) after an operation. Results: There was no significant difference of shoulder ROM between the types of the SND. The group, in which the cervical nerves (C3-4 rami of the cervical plexus) were excised, were lower in active shoulder ROM than the one in which it was preserved. Persons above 65 years were lower in shoulder ROM. Discussion: The study data confirmed that the excision of the C3-4 rami of the cervical plexus affects the limited active shoulder ROM. It is important to perform perioperative rehabilitation exercise particularly for old people to avoid the secondary disorders.
