Development Direction of China's College English Teaching Reform under New Situation

摘要
This paper firstly reviews the development course of China's College English Teaching since China's reform and the adoption of the open-door policy. By comparing the college English teaching objectives in syllabuses of different periods, this paper analyzes their differences and features. Then, on appreciating the description of the position, the nature and the objective of China's college English teaching in the upcoming Guidelines for College English Teaching, the author points out the enlightenments it brings us, i.e. the weakening of administrative compulsion, the respecting of differences, the respecting of autonomy and the respecting of objectivity. At last, current problems and challenges of college English teaching are elaborated, especially in curriculum design, and some personal opinions and suggestions are provided.
