Principles of liquid distribution and scale-up characteristics of Rombopak structured packing

The limited knowledge in scale-up of structured packings has prompted a broad investigation programme for Rombopak, a unique grid type structured packing. In a theoretical approach, principles of liquid distribution are evaluated with a one dimensional model. The experimental programme concentrated on tests with industrial size columns including distribution measurements and distillation tests. Basic new aspects predicted by the model were confirmed and excellent performance values were achieved, provided that the requirements for an optimal Liquid distribution are known and followed.
