Research on the Agricultural Economic Convergence in China under Opening Market

The majority of scholars analyze on the agricultural economic convergence in China under opening market from the aspect of an overall economic, but very few people from the aspect of the agricultural economy. In this paper, analyze the Agricultural Economic Convergence in China under Opening Market using the alpha convergence method and the beta convergence method and agricultural economy of the provinces and autonomous regions in China as the study object. The empirical results of alpha convergence method show that from 1995 to 2008, the agricultural development in China has the trend of convergence, divergence and then re-convergence. The test results of beta convergence show that agricultural economic growth rate is higher in backward areas than in developed regions due to various conditions and the gaps between agricultural developments of different regions continue to be narrowed and will eventually reach equilibrium. Thus, there is absolute beta convergence in China. Under opening market the import and export trading volume of agricultural products, said the extent of opening up, has the significant effect on narrowing the agricultural economy development gap of various regions. In the backward areas, improving the agricultural economic growth rates can be gotten by expanding the agricultural import and export trade, and thus catch up with the advanced areas in the agricultural development.
