Male breast cancer is a rare disease. The accepted ratio of male to female breast cancer is 1:100. Jewish malts have a higher incidence of breast cancer than non-Jewish males. In Israel. from 1960-1979, 1.6% of all breast cancer patients were male: between 1992-1993 this rate increased to 1.9%. Between 1979-1997. 43 men with breast cancer were treated in our hospital. One patient had bilateral breast cancer. The mean age was 66. Of this group, 90.6% presented with breast mass. Invasive ductal carcinoma was the most common histology. found in 77.3% of these patients. At diagnosis. 68.1% were in stage Tis. I. IIa: 11.3% were in stage IV. We performed 44 operations on 43 patients. Modified radical mastectomy was the: most common operation, constituting 84% of all operations. The five year survival rates were as follows: stage I. 72.4%: stage IT. 41.9%: stage III. 26%.
