New ways to synthesize or to utilize the nitro compounds, nitrones, nitrates, oximes, hydroxylamines, and amine oxides are described in this Account. Discussions cover the design and mechanisms of some novel reactions involving compounds bearing an N-O-X ((X = 1-3)) moiety.
