Update on immediate implant placement and immediate restoration after extraction

Patient comfort and satisfaction has gained importance in all areas of medicine. In dental implantology, innovative treatment concepts have been introduced in line with this trend. In particular, immediate implant placement and restoration after extraction of a tooth offers the greatest time savings and cost reduction for the patient compared with conventional procedures. A strict indication is essential for the success of this therapy concept. Taking into account the indication, biologic and anatomical factors, and consideration of the prosthetic restoration and loading concepts, immediate implant placement after extraction offers results comparable with those of conventional concepts in terms of implant survival and success. This article presents the surgical and prosthetic options, complications, and risks on the basis of the current state of scientific knowledge.
