An empirical analysis of the relationship between China's marine economy and marine environment

China's marine economy has gradually become one of the main driving forces for national economic growth in recent years. Based on the Environmental Kuznets Curve theory, this paper selects four indicators to represent the marine environmental pollution level, namely industrial solid waste discharge, industrial wastewater discharge, dredged emissions and pollutant emissions from offshore oil exploration in coastal areas. Gross marine product per capita is selected as the indicator to reflect the marine economy. Using the relevant data of China's marine economy and environment from 2005 to 2016, the regression equation between marine environmental pollution level and marine economy was established. The results show that the growth of marine economy effectively controls the discharge of industrial wastewater. But pollutant emissions from offshore oil exploration are still increasing year by year. It is concluded that marine environmental pollution will not necessarily improve with the growth of the marine economy. This phenomenon is not spontaneous. Various measures need to be taken to curb marine pollution and improve the marine environment.
