The wind energy market in China

The total potential Chinese wind energy resource has been estimated to be about 250,000 MW and the Government target is to increase installed grid connected wind capacity from the current level of about 200 MW to around 300 to 400 MW by the year 2000 and 1000 MW by the year 2010. Details are given of the Chinese electricity industry and the players that will influence commercial wind farm development. Details are also given of some of the wind farm sites and of existing and planned projects, manufacturing joint ventures, government policy and some of the legislative and other barriers that will need to be removed before commercial development can take place on a large scale.
