Blood disorders in dogs and cats.: Hypereosinophilic syndrome in dogs

Hypereosinophilic syndrome is a rare disorder characterised by a marked persistent eosinophilia, eosinophilic infiltration in several organs and eosinophilic stem cell bone marrow infiltration. The condition is most often seen in cats and the form most commonly described is eosinophilic granuloma complex. The cause is often undetermined and diagnosis is complicated by the lack of specific symptoms. However, the condition must be differentiated from eosinophilic leukaemia. Treatment consists of immunosuppressive doses of corticosteroids, but the prognosis is generally very guarded.
