Laser chemistry of dimethylcadmium at surfaces

A survey of our experimental activity in laser chemistry of adsorbed dimethylcadmium (DMCd) is presented. The dissociation, ionization, and desorption of DMCd and its fragments have been studied by laser desorption mass spectrometry. Both chemisorbed monolayer and physisorbed multilayer were considered. Si(100), fused quartz, crown glass, and stainless steel were used as substrates. A variety of pulsed lasers from IR CO2 (9.4 mu m) to UV KrCl (222 nm) were applied to induce the processes in adsorbed DMCd. The mechanisms based on resonant excitation of adsorbate, photoexcitation or heating of substrates were realized. The special features of adlayer photochemistry compared with gaseous phase one were found.
