A Comparative Study on Rural and Urban Compulsory Education

Since China made its transition from a planned economy to a market-oriented economy, rural education system has changed fundamentally and great progress has been achieved. However, the availability and afford ability of rural compulsory education still face huge challenges. On top of the lists are issues such as difficulties in inadequate investments and poor education quality in rural areas. Public investments in education have long-term impacts on rural human capital accumulation and rural development. From a long run point of view, efforts in three aspects need to be made to boost the development of rural compulsory education. At last, the paper gives some advice in order to improve rural compulsory education.
