SEPIA: A real-time expert system that automates train route management

The SEPIA system is a real-time software package that handles all non-safety-related activities usually carried out by a signalman, mainly the selection and setting of train routes, the management of route conflicts, the choosing of the station platform and parking tracks, and the follow-up and checking of train movements. As an added advantage it processes and distributes train traffic information for management needs and informing customers.
