摘要：
Immunoglobulin (Ig) E-mediated (type I) immediate hypersensitivity is described in food animal species. Mechanisms of pathogenesis of diseases involving IgE, including anaphylactic responses to vaccines, are discussed. The historical description of IgE and its quantitation in these species are documented and related to efforts to develop reagents and assays with which to measure IgE. The role of IgE in parasite infection, which involves both protection and exacerbation of lesions, is also addressed.
