A champion of Darwin with a soft spot for Creationists, Ernst Mayr did not like the idea of undermining someone else's faith he simply believed in being fearlessly honest and diligent in the pursuit of knowledge. There are very good reasons, he noted, why scientists and non-scientists alike return again and again to Darwin. And these are much the same as the reasons people will be returning over and over to the work of Ernst Mayr. A consummate scientist, "he was interested in everything".
