MSC/CSIM-based processing delay simulation modeling and analysis

In this paper we describe the motivation, implementation, example and application of a general-purpose simulation model based on the CSIM18 simulation engine. The model has been used in delay analysis of next-generation cellular network signaling, but could readily be applied to any network and any technology that can be described in terms of Message Sequence Charts (MSCs). The authors found the capabilities of this simulation approach valuable during the architecture and requirements phase as delay budgets were being established. This is also useful in highlighting unexpected behavior in the early stages of product development.
