摘要
Objective: Poop medication compliance poses a significant impediment to the effective treatment of a wide variety of illnesses. Compliance improves as the prescribed dose frequency decreases. This prospective randomized study was intended to assess the efficacy of a single dose of intramuscular Ceftriaxone for treatment of acute otitis media in children, Methods: The sample included 206 infants and children aged 6 months to 6 years, all had uncomplicated acute otitis media, By random assignment, 83 patients received a single intramuscular injection of Ceftriaxone 50 mg/kg, while the other 123 patients received Augmentin 40 mg/ kg/day in 3 divided doses for 10 days and were taken as controls, Demographic and clinical characteristics were similar in both groups. Chi-squared statistics and Student's t-test were used for statistical analysis, Results: The result of this study showed that the treatment was successful (defined as resolution of symptoms within 10 days) in 90.91% of patients on Ceftriaxone and in 93.04% of those on Augmentin with no statistically significant difference in both groups. When otoscopic and tympanometric evaluation at 10 and 60 day follow-up visit were considered, both groups showed similar rates of improvement. Conclusion: it is concluded that a single intramuscular injection of Ceftriaxone is as effective as 10 days of oral Augmentin for the treatment of uncomplicated acute otitis media in children.
