Neonatal hearing screening is an idea whose time has finally come. The goals of pediatric hearing evaluation are to identify the degree and type of hearing loss and develop a comprehensive strategy to provide support for the development of language and communication. This article describes the reasons, types of testing, potential downsides, and advances in the field.
