Approaches to Cultivating Students' Cross-cultural Communicative Competence in College English Teaching

Language is the carrier of culture, and the study and application of language knowledge can not be separated from the learning and mastery of corresponding culture. The traditional college English teaching aims at training students' ability to use language, but this cultivation is mainly concentrated on the level of accurate use of language knowledge, and cannot develop students' language ability from the deeper cultural point of view. The direct consequence of this kind of teaching mode is that the students' intercultural communication ability is insufficient, which leads to the obstacle of language use in authentic communication, because they don't understand the differences between the two cultures. Therefore, with the development of globalization and the increasing exchanges between China and foreign countries, it is extremely necessary to cultivate college students' intercultural communicative competence in the process of college English teaching.
