Chaos-assisted tunneling in dielectric microcavities

We demonstrate that the lifetimes and emission patterns of the optical modes in generic (asymmetric) microresonators are strongly affected by the phenomenon of chaos-assisted tunneling and develop a theory of the effect. (C) 2005 Optical Society of America.
