摘要:
Purpose: To investigate a way to prevent postoperative adhesion and fibrosis after hang-back recession surgery, an animal study was carried out to evaluate the effect of mitomycin-C (MMC) and hydroxyurea (HU) on this procedure. Methods: A prospective, masked-observer, controlled study was performed in New Zealand rabbits. Bilateral hang-back recession of superior and inferior rectus muscle was performed and MMC and HU were applied 5 minutes between muscle-sclera and muscle-conjunctiva with a sponge (groups I and II), whereas other eyes of these rabbits were reserved a control group (group III). In this study, the degree of postoperative adhesion, fibrosis, and vascularization of conjunctiva were recorded and compared. Results: In groups I and II, the records of postoperative adhesion and fibrosis were found to be significantly lower than in the control. group. The new insertion line was more regular in groups I and II. Histopathological examination of these muscles revealed decreased fibrosis of perimuscular connective tissue in eye groups I and II. Conclusion: This article suggests that HU and MMC can help to reduce postoperative adhesion, fibrosis, and vascularization of conjunctiva in rabbits that underwent hang-back recession surgery.
