Finite element method for end-plate joints in steel frames

摘要
This paper presents an overview of a comprehensive investigation into semi-rigid connections in steel frames conducted at the University of Abertay Dundee for a number of years. Three-dimensional models of both Bush and extended endplate joints, and T-stub joints have been developed and nonlinear finite element analysis of the various models have been carried out using either LUSAS or ABAQUS software package. A large number of full-scale tests of end-plate joints have been performed with the aim of validating the results of the numerical analyses. Many test specimens failed due to column web buckling. Using ABAQUS software package a nonlinear buckling analysis is presently being carried out. The progress of this analysis is reported in this paper.
