Thermal performance of a packed bed reactor of a calcium oxide/carbon dioxide chemical heat pump was examined to design a heat pump in practical use. The bed reactor packed with particle calcium carbonates was studied under various reaction pressure and temperature conditions. A numerical analysis model considering particle reaction and reactant fluid transportation was applied to the packed bed reaction. The model showed qualitative behavior of the packed bed reaction. The possibility of a thermal driven system of the chemical heat pump was discussed based on the experimental results and numerical analysis.
