摘要
This paper presents an innovative approach to optical fiber cable supervision. aimed at fully exploiting the potential of an optical network monitoring system designed for OAM activities (bringing-into-service, preventive and corrective maintenance after-repair verification). The paper describes the monitoring principle and highlights the key benefits provided by the system, taking into account the increasingly complex scenario in which the system itself will operate: local. national and international traffic er;plosion, massive optical cable installations, transmission technology continuously shifting towards "more bit/s, more wavelengths, more optics". and the entrance of different competitive actors into the TLC market, posing a serious threat to network operators' capacity to manage their optical asset with maximum profitability.
