Intelligent condition monitoring

In the last ten years maintenance management schemes have evolved rapidly within Post Office Service Delivery. Advancing automation programmes and pressures to reduce operational costs have resulted in time-based maintenance scheduling being superseded by condition monitoring and predictive maintenance. An approach is described for the design and construction of an autonomous monitoring system for mail processing machines. The proposed system is comprised of a novel combination of sensor technologies and advanced data processing tools to permit sensor fusion and an intelligent learning system. The work on this system will take place within a three-year project sponsored by EPSRC and in partnership with The University of Loughborough and IRISYS Ltd, IDS Ltd and Holroyd Instruments Ltd are also involved in an adjunct project.
