Professor Nie Zhenzhao's speech on the 2004 Foreign Literature Conference in Nanchang, entitled "Ethical Literary Criticism, A New Approach of Literary Criticism", is regarded as the origin of Ethical Literary Criticism. Since then, Professor Nie has published a series of articles,systematically interpreting the necessity of formulating Ethical Literary Criticism, the difference between Ethical Literary Criticism and Moral Criticism as well as the basic theories of Ethical Literary Criticism. A survey and evaluation of Professor Nie's six years' research on Ethical Literary Criticism is very important in promoting this criticism and helping scholars to grasp the essence of the new approach.
