The part played by the information centres can be thoroughly established if we follow up the main stages of the information transfer cycle by the formal communication channels, as follows: acquiring the information sources; sources organization and control; secondary publication; secondary distribution. All other activities, regarding the authorship, primary publication, primary distribution, as well as assimilation are not included among those under the information centres direct control
