A case study: Incorporating electronic portfolios into a school leader preparation internship

The use of portfolios for professional development and evaluation of practicing teachers and in teacher preparation programs has been increasing since the mid 1980's. In the last few years, there has been an interest in fostering the development of electronic portfolios as an efficient method to assess student performance and to facilitate the use of various technology tools. The electronic portfolio however, has not been as widely used in educational leadership preparation programs. The purpose of this article is to provide information about the use of the electronic portfolio in a university educational leadership program. The electronic portfolio was introduced in a two-semester internship course exploring two selected low-technology and high-technology format options. Detailed descriptions of formats are provided and recommendations for faculty are presented.
