摘要
A stable supply of electricity to the monitoring sensors and remediation of the contaminated tidal sediment are two major problems in the tidal flat monitoring research. In this study, an evaluation of remediation of sulfide contaminated tidal flat sediment has been carried out while generating bioelectricity through sediment microbial fuel cells (SMFCs). A similar design of SMFC has been used in the laboratory to evaluate the remediation of two different-sized sediments collected from Tokyo bay and Yamaguchi bay by using three different electrode materials such as carbon felt, carbon fiber and bamboo charcoal. It was observed that AVS reduction was achieved around 100% for larger-sized particles (Tokyo bay) and 60% for smaller-sized particles (Yamaguchi bay), respectively. Carbon felt was the most efficient electrode material both for AVS reduction and bioelectricity generation in SMFC. Maximum power density detected were around 26 and 20 mW/m(2)from carbon felt and carbon fiber as electrode materials, respectively.
