Phoenix:: An authoring tool for hybrid e-learning documents

Nowadays, the Internet is used both as an open infrastructure for effective e-learning and for the distribution of pedagogical documents. A pedagogical hypertext document can contain two distinctive structures: i) the conceptual structure of a lecture, and ii) the hypertext document which is referred to. In this article, we present an authoring tool for hybrid pedagogical documents, which was developed in the context of ARIADNE. Authors can edit pedagogical hypertext documents featuring the conceptual structure of the document. The internal document structure is composed of HTML tags, for the purpose of presenting the smart presentation, and XML tags for efficiently representing pedagogical semantic. The tool also provides users with a pre-indexing facility generating a LOM-compatible file header, and with the generation of a read-only version of hypertext which can be retrieved using a web browser.
