Quantum dots as sensitive probes of their solid-state environment

摘要
We study the optical properties of a single n-type modulation-doped quantum dot. Under illumination, the impurity background leads to a distinct evolution of the dot energy spectrum. By comparing spectra of single dots under different excitation conditions, we evidence the role of p-type minority doping in our samples, and are able to determine the number and type of the impurities in the dot surroundings. Our results confirm that quantum dots are powerful local probes of their solid-state environment.
